Our History

The Grand Rapids Alumnae Chapter has presented programs over the years at the Welcome Home for the Blind; the Grand Rapids Veterans Facility; Clark Memorial Home; Kent Community Hospital; Pilgrim Manor; Heather Hills; Green Acres of Greenville; and Covenant Village of the Great Lakes. We have also sponsored scholarships and various music programs in the Greater Grand Rapids area. 


Received the Alumnae Chapter Achievement Award for Alpha B Province at the 2016 Province Day at Western Michigan University




Two members attended the National Convention in St. Louis whose theme was "Voices of Experience, Voices of the Future"
Marked our 50th year at the Glenkerry Golf Course in Greeneville, MI with sisters, loved ones, and distinguised guest, Alpha B Province Officer, Sally Roach.  
Two members attended the Naitonal Convention in Atlanta whose theme was the "Healing Power of Music" 
Participated in the iniation and installation of the Mu Alpha Chapter at Grand Valley State University in Allendale, MI. President Elizabeth Nordling and Chariman of Philanthropy Daryle Gardner-Bonneau were honored guests. 




Celebrated our 45th Anniversary at Covenant Village in Grand Rapids
Marcia Klein awarded Rose of Honor
Sharon Steffens awarded the Diamond Sward of Honor, a National Leadership Award given to 3 sisters that year
Received Alpha B Province Chapter Achievement Award 
Sponsored an organ concert featuring Yoon Jung Yang, a South Korean student completing her Doctorate in Organ Performance at St. Andrew's Cathedral in Grand Rapids, MI
Centennial Convention was heald in Dearborn, MI attended by six members
Post Convention Celebration & Musicale at St. Cecelia's Library



1966-1970 Continued 

Catherine Comet, renowned conductor of the Grand Rapids Symphony, was initiated as a National Honorary Member  in September
Sponsored a concert by pianist, Alba Alconi of Uruguay as a part of People-to-People Tour of the United States She was hosted by Eleanor Sanders
Alpha Province Alumnae Chapter of the Year Award (1969) 
Awarded National Alumnae Yearbook Award (1970)




August 12 at the Minneapolis Convention, Grand Rapids Alumnae was installed.
Received Honorable Mention for the Yearbook
Five members began a year-long course on "literary braille." Six members also participated in a summer music program for 30 blind children. Records were provided to the Lincoln School for the Mentally Challenged, Mary Free bed and the Welcome Home for the Blind.
